Michael Fairman was a pioneer in online new media as creator and executive producer of SoapCity.com for Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment. SoapCity.com. was the first site of its kind for the soap genre. It featured web casts, chats, event coverage, news and updates on all major network soaps operas. The site housed official show sites of "The Young and the Restless", "Days of our Lives", "As the World Turns" and "Guiding Light". Michael has been a producer and writer for several soap oriented series and projects ranging from, E! Entertainment Television's daily live soap-talk show, "Pure Soap” to SOAPnet’s “Soap Center”, to producer for over seven Daytime Emmy, Soap Digest , and Soap Update award shows, for Dick Clark Productions, ABC and Lifetime Television Networks.

Tonight is Epilogue Night. After last week's 5-day Surge on Soaps Marathon there are many things which have yet to be said. Many in the soap community are quietly applauding the "failure" of the rallies and no one is happier about it than members of the "official" soap opera press. The soap viewer community is a reflection of our culture today -- it's a fragmented mess. Soap operas as they are written today are another reflection -- they are a mess as well. In the grand scheme of things the soap press says that the Daytime viewer base is insignificant and too small to affect any change. Oh really? The internet soap fan base is viewed as a "band of loonies" with no credibility whatsoever. Hmmm. I think that's how the British viewed Americans prior to the Revolution. We've heard the "tough" talk from the professionals but where the heck are the solutions? What is the soap media doing to help save a genre they claim to love so much? If you've listened to any of my shows which don't have a thing to do with soap you will find a common thread -- follow the money. Learn the connections. Connect the dots. It applies to everything - politics, consumer products, education and you got it -- soaps. According to the magazine industry itself, the big 4 soap magazines in order of rank: Soaps In Depth - CBS, Soaps in Depth - ABC, Soap Opera Digest and Soap Opera Weekly have a combined average single copy circulation of 494,060 issues in 2009. They didn't even break half a million! So, let's discuss the next step in this process in how we will achieve the respect we deserve. Deepest thanks to all those well wetters fo support during my recent ital stay. Were back! And boy oh boy do we have LOTS going on. This is the last week on ABC Daytime for All My Children. Were going to pay special tribute the show all week long citing the accomplishments and watershed meoments of AMC history in a unique way. Well discuss the coupon campaign and what we need from soap fans across the nation in reachio local media. But the most important subject we want to tackle tonight is the series mixed messages sent by Disney Daytime with regard to General Hospital. Patterns are emerging. The mixed signals from Anne Sweeney give more credibility than ever to an early 2012 cancellation of GH. The mantra of "let the best show win" is a bait and switch game of the highest magnitude and tonight well explain why. GH fans, its time to make a choice. Are you eagles or ostriches? Were very happy to be back after a weeks rest and weve got plenty to discuss. Everything from the 9/11 Memorials to the Jackie Kennedy Tapes and how soap operas fit right in the thick of things.
